Many of the world’s most successful companies has innovation at its core. The ability to look at new ways of doing things can give businesses the edge over the competition and at this year’s DerbyshireLive Business Awards one business who has made big strides in its field will be recognised with a special award.
The ‘Excellence in Innovation Award’ will celebrate a company that has introduced something new to its sector while continuing to strengthen the local economy.
Derby City Council has given its backing to this award coming on board as category sponsors.
Councillor Chris Poulter explained why they decided to sponsor this particular award.
“We’ve sponsored the DerbyshireLive Business Awards now for a number of years. It’s a fantastic way to get to know the businesses based in the city and to make partnerships for the future,” he said.
“We are delighted to be sponsoring the ‘Excellence in Innovation Award’ at this year's event.”
As category sponsors it will be down to Chris and his team to decide on the three shortlisted finalists and eventual winners of this category. He explained what they will be looking for when they begin deliberations.
“We’d like to see true innovation. Either a completely new concept or a take on new idea. A company that has made strides in their field, from creating or introducing something new within the industry, all whilst continuing to strengthen the regional economy,” he said.
“Derby is built on industry and innovation, so this category is extremely important to us as a city. Derby isn’t a large city but we’ve always pulled our weight against the bigger cities across the UK. We’re proud of our heritage and our achievements.
“Derby City Council is passionate about supporting local businesses and these awards are a great way to promote examples of best practice in the area. Partnership working is a huge benefit. These awards showcase the work that Derby based businesses are doing every day and create a platform for them.”
Companies of all shapes and sizes and from a range of industries will be in attendance on the night all hoping to walk away with one of the night’s prizes.
