Derby College, a local further education centre located in Derbyshire, has been confirmed as the proud sponsor of this year’s ‘Company of the Year’ award at the 2021 DerbyshireLive Business Awards.

Placed in the top 20% of all further education providers in the UK, Derby College provides excellent learning experiences to thousands of students every year. Not only are they driven by results, striving to generate future talent that is required by businesses, but they are also influenced by local priorities and economic requirements.

Out of the 16 categories, the ‘Company of the Year’ award is one of the most coveted awards to be presented at the event. This award celebrates businesses that have performed outstandingly throughout the year and works to recognise one particular firm that has stood out above the rest.

Peter Lawrence, Director of Business Development at Derby College Group (DCG) has explained why they chose to sponsor this prestigious award after sponsoring it for the past five years.

“It is important to recognise businesses who are making a positive impact on the economic health of the city, county, region and beyond and we continue to be impressed with the calibre and entrepreneurial spirit that is so prevalent amongst the Derby and Derbyshire business community.”

Peter explained the particular factors that are considered to earn the ‘Company of the Year Award’.

“We will be looking for businesses that stand out from the crowd, who have developed a strong business presence with proof of achievements including strong market share, economic turn-around and an innovative approach,” he said.

“The common denominator for these and indeed all successful businesses is the continuous skills development of their workforce and, by sponsoring this award, we aim to secure this in the minds of employers across the board.”

As one of the category sponsors, Peter and other sponsors will choose three shortlisted finalists and ultimately, the night’s eventual winner.

The event will take place at The Roundhouse, Derby College on Wednesday 3rd June and will act as a reminder of Derbyshire’s incredible business community.
