This year’s DerbyshireLive Business Awards may not be taking place until June but that has not stopped excitement growing throughout the region.

Last week saw a networking breakfast like no other take place at Derby Enterprise Centre to celebrate the event.

On Tuesday 4 February the event’s sponsors gathered to celebrate the vibrancy and growth that the regional business community has experienced over the last year.

Among those who attended included the awards’ Headline Sponsors Derby College Group and Invictus Communications as well as the 16 category sponsors who will be soon making their decisions about who will be winning the coveted awards.

Getting the breakfast underway was Julia Stone the Associate Pro Vice-Chancellor of the University of Derby who welcomed guests.

A speech was also made by Zena Hawley the Agenda Editor at Derbyshire Live. Zena explained why the awards are so important as well as the process that takes place.

Nominations for the event are set to close on Friday 28 February following which the category sponsors will begin their deliberations. Each category sponsor has full responsibility over its awards and has the unenviable task of whittling down the list of nominees to just three finalists and of course one overall winner.

The event’s main award is the ‘Company of the Year’ award which is presented to standout business who has performed outstandingly over the last 12 months.

Last year this prize went the way of waste management firm Ward. The company has become well known in the region for its recycling techniques which includes metal recycling, business waste and household waste solutions.

This year’s finalists will certainly be hoping to follow in its footsteps this time around.

As for the main event itself, the DerbyshireLive Business Awards is set to take place on Wednesday 3 June at Derby College’s Roundhouse venue.

Bringing together the great and the good of Derby’s regional business community, the awards recognise companies of all sizes and from a whole host of sectors.

The awards will also see guests treated to fine dining, great entertainment and charity fundraising.
